Parent University at AMS: A Night of Connection, Celebration, and Community

ANDERSEN AIR BASE, GUAM – Andersen Middle School proudly hosted Parent University, a vibrant evening that brought together students, families, staff and community to celebrate learning, leadership, and the spirit of the Dragons on May 16, 2025.
From the moment families arrived, the campus buzzed with excitement. The event was the result of weeks of preparation by dedicated teachers and hardworking students, all eager to showcase the incredible programs and opportunities AMS offers.
The night opened with inspiring performances by the Beginning and Advanced Bands, whose music set a festive tone. Students demonstrated their growth and talent, leaving families beaming with pride.
The Andersen Air Force Base community came together in full force to support Parent University, offering exciting giveaways and helpful resources for families. A sincere thank you to the USO, AAFB Exchange, Guam Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Civil Air Patrol, School Liaison Office, Family Child Care, AAFB Library, University of Maryland Global Campus, and the Family Advocacy Program for their generous contributions and continued dedication to our families' well-being.
Throughout the evening, families explored a variety of engaging stations, including:
- AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): Highlighting strategies that prepare students for college and career success.
- STUCO (Student Council): Student leaders shared their projects and how they help shape a positive school culture.
- Child Find: Providing resources and support for families seeking special education services.
- Installation Resources: Coordinated by the School Liaison Officer (SLO), this station offered guidance for military-connected families transitioning into AMS.
- Google Classrooms & School Links: The school counselor provided families with essential digital tools, including Google Classroom codes and school resource links, empowering parents to stay informed and engaged in their child’s academic journey.
- Athletics and Clubs at AMS: Families learned about the athletic and club opportunities available for the upcoming school year, encouraging students to stay active, build teamwork, and show their Dragon pride.
- Academic Enrichment Programs: AMS also showcased a variety of innovative and engaging academic offerings, including:
- Science
- Lego Robotics
- Journalism
- AAPS
- Intercultural EducationResearch-Based Classes
A special focus of the evening was welcoming 5th grade students and their families. These future Dragons were invited to explore AMS, meet staff, and learn about the exciting programs, clubs, and opportunities that await them in middle school.
The success of Parent University was a testament to the collaborative spirit of AMS. Teachers and students worked tirelessly to prepare presentations and performances, while staff ensured the event ran smoothly. Families came out in full force, eager to connect and learn more about their children's educational journey.
AMS continues to shine as a place where students are empowered, families are engaged, and the Dragon spirit thrives. Parent University 2025 was more than an event—it was a celebration of everything that makes AMS a special place to learn and grow.
