Academic Eligibility for AMS Sports

Based on Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam (IIAAG) regulations end of Quarter Grades will determine eligibility to participate in athletic activities for the next quarter. To participate in academic, athletics, and JROTC activities, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), with no more than one failing grade. All students that are enrolled in a DoDEA school are monitored weekly to verify that they are meeting this academic requirement.  Grades are cumulative to date for the quarter.  An ineligible student may not practice, try out for a sport, or participate in games or academic event preparation sessions during the period of ineligibility which extends to the next weekly academic check. Ineligible student-athletes will not be in uniform for games or travel with the team to games.  They can sit in the spectator area but will not be affiliated with the team during the competition.

Interscholastic Athletics

All high school students, and middle school students in some cases, are provided the opportunity to participate in the Interscholastic Athletic Program without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, or other factors unrelated to that participation. There are uniform eligibility policies for participants in all athletic programs. Please refer to your Area Interscholastic Athletics Program Policy for details relating to your school. For DoDEA- Americas schools, please consult your state of residence athletic policies and the school athletic director for specifics regarding state regulations and requirements.

Extra-Curricular Activities / Sports / Discipline

Athletics/Extra-Curricular Activities: Athletics and Extra-Curricular Activities are a privilege for our students and all are encouraged to participate. However, that privilege can be taken away for disciplinary reasons at any time at the discretion of the administration for disciplinary reasons. As a general rule, if a student has discipline infraction, the severity of the infraction will be taken into consideration and the privilege to participate in a sport or activity may be revoked for the quarter.

Students may also lose the privilege to participate on the first offense if it is deemed an appropriate punishment by the administration.

Out-of-School suspensions will result in disqualification for the quarter, while In-School-Suspensions will be at the discretion of the Administration.

Academic Integrity

All students are expected to be honest and to display a high standard of integrity in the preparation and presentation of work for credit in all classes. The attempt of any student to present as his/her own work such work that was not honestly performed by the student will be regarded as a serious offense which may subject the offender to a grading penalty and/or disciplinary action. School staff will contact the parents or guardians of any student who is found to be in violation of this policy. (Review AMS Grading Guidelines #11)

  1. Cheating - Dishonesty of any kind on a test or examination, written assignment, or project, illegal possession of test or examination questions, the use of unauthorized notes during a test or examination, obtaining or giving information about a test or examination from or to another student, assisting others to cheat or altering grade records are instances of cheating
  2. Plagiarism - Offering the work of another as one’s own work without proper acknowledgement is plagiarism; therefore, any student who fails to give credit for quotations or essentially identical material taken from books, encyclopedias, magazines, internet sources, and other reference works or from themes, reports or other writings of a fellow student is guilty of plagiarism

Sports Physicals

Each student participating in a sport must have a sports physical signed by a physician and completed within the last year on file in the nurse’s office and with the Athletic Director. Physicals are only valid for one calendar year from the date the physical was given, so they must be updated annually in order for a student to play sports.

All students wishing to participate in Andersen Middle School sports must submit a COMPLETED SPORTS PACKET, which can be picked up at the front office.
