Andersen Middle School students explore Guam’s ecosystems through experiential learning
Andersen Air Base, Guam – Andersen Middle School successfully completed a dynamic experiential study trip involving nearly 180 participants on Nov. 14, 2025, offering students an opportunity to deepen their scientific knowledge while fostering critical thinking, inquiry, and environmental stewardship.
The trip showcased Guam’s unique forestry ecosystems through interactive science exhibits at the Chalan Deskubre Hub (Discovery Path Hub) and STEM-focused activities led by 4-H at the University of Guam. Students explored Guam’s rich local biodiversity by identifying flora and fauna, planting cucumber seedlings, and participating in hands-on microscopy sessions. They also learned about sustainable food systems through aquaponics with red tilapia, hydroponics, and agroforestry—innovative strategies that address conservation and food security.
Interactive experiences such as the Science of Smoothie-Making encouraged collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving, making science both engaging and practical. The goal of the trip was to inspire curiosity and empower students to see themselves as scientists, innovators, and environmental stewards. This real-world connection provides knowledge and skills that will support their future academic and career pursuits.
AMS remains committed to creating meaningful learning opportunities that prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world. Special thanks to the dedicated faculty, staff, parent chaperones, community partners, and our Dragon students for making this journey both memorable and impactful.
